Formed in 1958, the Orange County Humane Society is a volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for abandoned, injured and homeless animals in our community.

Adoptions are done in partnership with the Orange County Animal Shelter, a no-kill humane care facility. Our volunteers take dogs and cats from the animal shelter to adoption venues such as PetSmart®, the Lake of the Woods Shopping Center, church fairs and fund-raising events.

Our activities also include a transport team for adoptable cats, a spay/neuter team which facilitates community access to a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, and much more!

As a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are authorized to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions to the extent permitted by law. A financial statement is available from the State Office of Consumer Affairs: P.O. Box 1163 - Richmond, VA 23218. We hold one to two major fundraisers annually to augment our mail-in and online efforts. Contributions are used primarily for veterinary care, as well as to assist with shelter programs and supplies not provided by the county.
